Inspiration

It was Helen Keller who described the most beautiful things in the world as those not seen or touched but felt within the heart….yet it is through our senses, (including our sixth sense), that we make sense of the world and so can be moved.
In life we experience both joy and pain…they are two sides of the one coin. Often it is the hardest experiences that are potentially the most transformative. We need both to be truly human and to develop the humanity and compassion that is in each of us. The key to an authentic life is to find the balance in our passions so that we can channel them positively. Painting has helped me do just this.
The inspiration for my work predominantly comes from the colours and designs in nature. I love to work intuitively and not get too hindered by the constraints of an academic/intellectual approach to making art. For me, painting holds the same excitement and energy as my days in performing and comes from a personal place and life experiences. I am drawn to making the everyday magical, lyrical, sensual, opulent, alive. I hope my work reminds you that the world can be and is a beautiful place and connects you with the heart and soul of life.Other influences include:the landscape of my early years in Broken Hillthe magic of my fathermy journey with the ‘Bowing Company’the physicality and energy of performance, costume, colour, designthe colours, light and diversity of Australiathe compassion and wisdom of his Holiness the 14th Dalai LamaJothe soul of musicfriendshipslove and loss……all of life
Painting for me links the inner and outer worldsIt is a healing and creative act.
